Job Description:

Blackstone Environmental is seeking a field geologist/engineer/scientist to support operations in Eastern Iowa in Iowa City or Quad Cities offices. The field geologist/engineer/scientist will execute various assignments related to contaminated site characterization and remediation, soils and geologic and/or engineering support, facility regulatory compliance, permitting, and other environmental services, including well installation and geologic logging. The field geologist/engineer/scientist will prepare written materials including correspondence, work plans, reports, and health and safety plans. The position will allow for growth into project management responsibilities for assigned clients and projects. Blackstone will provide oversight and training in support of a geologist working toward professional licensure and scientists working toward certifications such as Iowa Certified Groundwater Professional.

Job Requirements:

Expected duties will include the following:

  • Surface and subsurface investigation, geologic logging, well installation, aquifer evaluation, monitoring and sampling activities, remedial operation and maintenance, due diligence assessments, and QA/QC data validation.
  • The application of geology, and/or hydrogeological principles to environmental problems.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills and strong personal computer skills.
  • Frequent field work and associated travel.
  • Certifiable for the use of a respirator.

The ideal candidate must be able to work successfully as a member and eventually as a leader of a project team and independently as necessary to execute assignments.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geohydrology, Geologic Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.

Experience:

Entry level position up to five years of experience.

Certificates/Licenses:

  • Required at entry: valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred but not required: Professional Geologist License or successful passage of the Fundamentals of Geology Exam, Professional Engineer License, and OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER with current updates.
