Project Summary

Blackstone conducted a Phase I ESA in September 2020 on a 115-year-old manufacturer of carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and brass. RECs identified included the current and former use of the facility, the presence of a diesel aboveground storage tank (AST), leaks, spills, stains, and absorbent observed beneath ASTs and drums, the presence of a paint booth and current and former chemicals associated with paint booths (solvents and paint thinners), the former presence of an on-Site rail spur, the past use of trichloroethylene, xylenes, and toluene, and the historical use of the surrounding properties as a foundry, industrial laundry, municipal garage, and power company.

Manufacturer Phase I and II

Services Provided

The Phase II ESAs consisted of advancing soil borings and sampling soil and groundwater at properties used for auto repair, auto salvage, oil warehouse, and as construction companies. The results were compared to the Iowa Statewide Standards and a risk evaluation was conducted. Once the properties are obtained, the buildings are planned to be razed and the properties left vacant for flood maintenance.
